Surface Tension of Sera as Affected by the Precipitin Reaction
نویسنده
چکیده
An attempt to find evidence, through the study of surface tension, using the du Noüy tensiometer, of a denaturing effect of the precipitin reaction upon either the antigen or the immune serum yielded entirely negative results.

On the Possible Importance of Colloidal Protection in Certain Phases of the Precipitin Reaction
It 'has been frequently observed by those who have worked with l:he precipitin reaction that the sera of protein-immunized animals may contain, at certain times, both precipitin, and, side by side with it, unassimilated remnants of the antigen. Such sera, w'hen taken, are clear, but will show precipitation not only when mixed with dihttions of the antigen, but also when added to other homologou...
متن کاملThe Precipitin Reaction of Antipneumococcus Sera
The precipitin indices for a number of monovalent and polyvalent antipneumococcus sera were determined under known conditions, and found to vary as did the number of protective units. The ratio precipitin index/protective units in monovalent sera was found to lie between 2.8 and 4.8 for Type I and to be about ten times greater for Type III. Lower values were found in polyvalent horses and when ...
متن کاملAn Experimental Investigation of Water Effects on Asphaltene Surface Behavior through Interfacial Tension Measurements
As a physiochemical property, asphaltenes are known to be one the most surface active compounds in crude oil. Due to such property, their behavior is most probably influenced by fluid-fluid interactions at the contact surface (interface). Potentially and naturally, in most cases, water is in contact with crude oil and is co-produced with it as well. Considering that asphaltene molecules are pol...
متن کاملCharacterization of the "reactant" (gamma Globulin Factor) in the F Ii Precipitin Reaction and the F Ii Tanned Sheep Cell Agglutination Test
The material in gamma globulin ("reactant") which reacts with rheumatoid sera in the F II precipitin and F II tanned sheep cell agglutination tests was concentrated by precipitation with sodium sulfate. The concentrated "reactant" appeared to consist of polydispersed molecular aggregates of gamma globulin with s(20) constants as high as 40, as well as the previously described inhomogeneous aggr...
متن کاملAntinuclear antibody with distinct specificity for polymyositis.
In the course of studying antinuclear antibodies in the rheumatic diseases, a new precipitin reaction (provisionally referred to as PM-1) was observed between calf thymus nuclear extract and polymyositis sera. Objectives of this study were to further define the immunologic nature of this reaction and to determine its specificity for polymyositis. Immunodiffusion studies using calf thymus nuclea...
